It's common to hear that you should be posting your videos to every social media channel. Today I am going to tell you why you should only be posting your videos to YouTube. Want to watch the video, then click below. Prefer to keep reading? Then keep on scrolling.
When you have a nice shiny new video you want it to be seen by as many people as possible. You may think the best way to do this by posting the full video on Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram or Pinterest but this will only hurt the success of your video in the long run.
Critical Timing
Follow me down this quick tangent. On YouTube the first 48 hours in the life of your video are crucial. This is when YouTube gives your video a bit of a bump in the search results so that it can work out how relevant your video is to those search terms. The more views you get in that time the more Youtube sees your video as relevant. Keep that in mind and we will come back to it shortly.
Click It Or You Will Miss It
How long does your video get surfaced on Facebook? Instagram? At best (unless your video goes viral) your video may be seen for 2 to 3 days until you re-share it. Compare this to YouTube where your video will always be surfaced through search results and recommendations for as long as your video stays relevant.
Don’t Do The Splits
This is where the 48 hours comes in. Why split your audience in that crucial first 48 hours and damage the long term benefits of using YouTube?
Instead why not create a little teaser video for other social platforms that peaks peoples interest and then send them across to your YouTube channel just like this one I created for Bella from Feel Great 2 B Productive.
Did that get your attention? Do you want to see more? Well then it has done its job. I highly recommend checking out Bella’s channel by the way, great for getting you motivated.
That’s A Wrap
So to round it up, only post your full video on YouTube and then create a little teaser (it only has to be 10-20 seconds long) to share on other social media channels to drive traffic to your YouTube channel. This way your video will have better, longer lasting results on YouTube and you can start to grow your YouTube following.
Have you had success using teaser videos? Leave a link to them in the comments below as I would love to see them.
