Are you finding video marketing to be too time-consuming for your business? You know video marketing is important but you are finding it hard to justify the amount of time you are spending on it.
To make the most of your time and investment you need to repurpose your content. That means taking your video content and adapting it into more content or even different formats. But how can you create more content from your video? Today I am showing you 5 different ways. Watch the video below or scroll down for the old fashioned text version.
Start A Blog
Are you writing scripts for your videos? If not, you should be. Not only do they help focus your video and get your message across but they also make it easier for you to transfer your content to more formats.
The easiest way to repurpose your content is to take your script and turn it into a blog post. You can even feature your YouTube video at the top of the blog post to give your audience the choice of reading or watching, just like we have done here.
The amount of work involved is minimal. After copying and pasting your script you only need to do a quick edit to change any references to video and add in a few subtitles to break up the article.
If you are releasing videos weekly that means you will also have weekly blog posts which Google loves. This is how we got our blog post ‘WHY use the PREMIERE feature on YouTube?’ to the top of Google search results for the search term, how to premiere on YouTube.
Bonus Tip! Why not create a LinkedIn article from your blog post? Again this is usually just a case of copying and pasting from your blog and will get your content out to a new audience.
Create Shorter Videos For Social Media
What about creating short videos from your longer content? So you have a decent length video covering the top 5 tips to save you money on household bills. Why not take each of those tips and split them up into their own videos for social media.
You can even include a link in your post saying, for the rest of the tips check out the full video here, driving more people to your YouTube channel.
It’s best if you plan this in advanced as you may have to tailor your script to make it easier to edit out each individual section.
What if you don’t do tip videos? Are there a few sentences in your video or a key piece of information that you could cut out. What about a catchy quote? There are many ways you can create shorter clips from your longer videos.
Create Social Images
How about turning your video content into images? Along the same lines as making shorter videos, can you distil one of your key bits of information into a sentence? Then why not create an image from this and include more detail in your post description? Again you can use this to link back to your YouTube video or channel.
Create A Podcast
Do you listen to podcasts? Podcasting is a huge business now with hundreds of millions of pounds paid in advertising. If your content allows, why not strip out the audio and turn it into an audio podcast. If it doesn’t quite work you can always edit your script to make it more audio friendly and just record the audio on your phone.
Podcasts are incredibly easy to set up now. With sites like anchor.fm, all you need to do is upload your audio and they will release it on all the podcast services like Apple Podcasts and Spotify. As your podcast grows they will also take care of the advertising. The best thing is that it's completely free.
Write A Book
The last way to repurpose your video content. Write a book. No, I’m not crazy and this isn’t as hard or as time-consuming as it sounds. You’ve already written scripts for your videos and turned those videos into blog posts. Why not take a group of posts on a similar topic and turn them into a book? You will need to write an intro and an outro and edit the posts to make them flow between each chapter but it’s far less work than starting from scratch.
Books are a great way of building authority and showing yourself as a leader in your field. That’s why one of my goals for the next 18 months is to create the YouTube Business Bible. Using all the posts I have created about using YouTube for your business, I want to make a complete guide on how to start a YouTube channel through to how to make it a success. Would you be interested in a book like that, I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments.
That’s A Wrap
Just to recap, the best 5 ways to repurpose your video marketing content are creating blog posts, edit your longer videos into shorter videos for social media, take images and quotes from your videos to use on social media, turn your videos into podcasts and use your content to write a book.
Do you have any of your own ways of repurposing content? Let me know in the comments below, I would love to include them in a follow-up post.
