Unprofessional looking videos will drive your potential customers away! A big difference between unprofessional and professional videos is editing. With that being said here are 6 reasons why you should edit your videos. Watch the video below or if you prefer to learn by reading, scroll down.
Remove Dead Air
The first benefit to editing your videos is getting rid of dead air. What is dead air? It’s the gaps in-between sentences when you are thinking of what to say next. Which one of these clips do you think is better?
You’ll probably agree that the second clip has the pace is quicker, the video flows smoothly and it doesn’t give you time to get bored and move on.
Easier Filming
This leads nicely on to my second point. By editing your videos you don’t have to record a whole video in one take. When you are on camera, especially for the first time, you are going to be very nervous and you will probably forget everything you are meant to say as soon as you start talking.
When I’m working with my clients we get around this by just leaving the camera rolling. That way you can take your time and get comfortable with talking to the camera.
If you make a mistake, it’s not a problem, we just go back to the beginning of the sentence and start again. This helps take away a lot of the pressure you feel when the red light comes on.
By editing we can cut these different takes together and make it flow. Did you notice I was cutting between two different takes in the dead air example?
Bonus tip! Don’t worry about editing out all of your umms and errs. These are very natural sounds and you probably make them on a day to day basis a lot more than you think. Keeping a few of these in helps to make your video feel more natural.
Add End Screens
If you edit your videos you can also use End Screens. I have a whole video on why you should end screens and how to set them up but the short of it is end screens direct your viewers to more of your content, helping increase your watch time and growing your YouTube channel. You can include an end screen at the end of your video without editing but it will look so much better and be a lot more effective with a dedicated screen at the end.
If you are using your videos on social media then you can use your end screen for a call to action such as ‘Sign up now’, ‘visit our website’ or ‘like our page’ for a few examples.
The last 3 reasons are all about adding production value to your videos.
Adding B-Roll
B-roll is the extra footage that you can add over your videos as you are talking just like this.
B-roll really helps add to your story and lets your viewers actually see what you are talking about. Another bonus is that you can use b-roll to cover up cuts in your video.
Adding Your Branding
You can also add your logo to your video, this can either be in a flashy intro or outro or you can subtly place your logo in a corner to help promote your brand. This looks so much better than having a big, cluttered roller banner behind you.
Build Atmosphere With Music
Lastly, you can add music to help add atmosphere. Music is a funny thing as most viewers won’t notice unless it is missing or the music is the wrong style.
Let’s use the same clip as I did for B-roll example and look at how much music changes the mood and the meaning of the footage being shown.
So by using the same footage we can completely manipulate the mood of the piece just using the music. Of course, this means that you have to pick the right music for your business and subject matter but adding music is one of the biggest improvements you can make.
How To Edit Your Business Videos
So as you can see, editing your videos can add so much, but how do you actually edit your videos? It’s not as hard as it sounds. I have a new course just for you where I teach how to use Filmora from a beginners level to do all of the things we have talked about in this post and more.
