Today I am going to share with you a quick tip that will take you 20 seconds but will help YouTube figure out what your video is about. Watch the video below or scroll down to keep reading.
Best Practices
When you are uploading a new video to YouTube there are a number of things you need to get right like your title, description, thumbnail, tags, end screens etc. But there is one thing you should be doing before even pressing that upload button.
What do you name your video file before you upload it to YouTube? Like most people, it is probably a shortened version of what you video is about, so for the video above it could easily be ‘File Name When Uploading’. The problem is that this doesn’t tell YouTube what your video is actually about.
Make It Clear
The fix? Re-name your file to the exact title of your video, so the file name for the video above would be ‘Why naming your YouTube upload file is important’. If your file name matches with your video title, you include keywords from your title in the first 2 lines of your description and you add those keywords to your tags, YouTube will have a much better understanding of the subject of your video and will be able to better serve your video in its search results.
That’s A Wrap
Nice quick tip for you today. So to wrap up, before uploading your video to YouTube, make sure the file name is an exact match to your YouTube video title as this will help confirm to YouTube what your video is about and they can better serve your video in search results.
