Writing a video script can be quite scary if you haven’t done it before, that’s why today I am going to break it down for you. If you prefer visuals, click the YouTube video below. Prefer reading? Then keep on scrolling.
What’s The Big Idea?
So the best way to start is to identify what you want your viewers to learn by the end of the video, it could be how to use a piece of software, how to boost your motivation or how to write a video script.
Break It Down
Next you can break down your main point of the video into smaller points. Let’s use this video as an example again. So the main point is writing video scripts. I will break this down into find the point of your video, break down in to smaller points, flesh out those points, create an enticing intro, the YouTube script formula.
It’s All In The Detail
Well now you already know what I am going to talk about next. Take your bullet points and flesh them out with the detail that you want to give your audience. If you are really confident with what you are talking about then you could just go off of the bullet points and not write the full script.
Grab Them By The Intro
Last couple of points, the first 15 seconds in a video are vital as this is usually where a viewer decides how much of the video they will watch. Use this time to attract your viewers attention and leave them wanting more. A couple of good tips are try and use the word you in the first sentence as this draws the viewers attention, also try asking a question as naturally people will want to know the answer.
There’s A Formula For That
The last point is to put this all together using this little formula. Start with your catchy intro to grab your viewers attention, you can follow this with a company intro if you have one. Next is a short sentance with the social proof on why they should listen to you (I’m a video producer with over 7 years of experience in producing videos for businesses). Now comes the meat of your video where you lay down all the information you promised at the start. Finally you want a quick recap of what they have learnt in the video and your calls to action. There’s quite a few you can mention such as give this video a like, subscribe to our channel, leave a comment below, head over to our facebook page, sign up for our mailing list etc. This may be one of the most important parts as you are telling your viewers what you want them to do next.
That’s A Wrap
So wrapping up you have learnt how to write a script by identifying what you want your viewer to learn, breaking it down into smaller chunks of detail then fleshing these out, create an attention grabbing intro and put it all together using the formula of intro, social proof, content, recap, call to action.
